The Redback Spider is a common arachnid native to much of the Australian continent, known for its powerful venom and signature red marking on its abdomen. The aim of this project was to thoroughly educate readers about the Redback Spider and push the level of interactivity and engagement of the book format.
The inside spreads are dominated by unique graphics that creep into each other, guiding readers to explore further. The exclusive use of black, red, and white along with lines mimicking webs establish an engaging visual system that distinguishes itself from more traditional educational materials.

The form of this book can be experienced with ordinary page flipping, but the irregular shape and connecting edges of the pages clue readers into the accordion-like interaction. When unfolded, the book becomes an octagonal ring, inspired by the eight eyes and eight legs of the spider. This also reveals a second half of the book where the back cover becomes a sprawl of webs containing creatures from inside and other names for the redback spider nestled in between them.
